Nomenclatural History
The species Streptococcus difficile was originally described by Eldar et al. 1994. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 52 in 1995. Euzéby corrected this name from (sic) to . Kawamura et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of Lehmann and Neumann 1896 (Approved Lists 1980) in 2005.
