Nomenclatural History
The species Novosphingobium stygiae was originally described and validly published by Takeuchi et al. 2001. This name was affected by Judicial Opinion 81 in 2008. List Editor corrected this name from (sic) to . Takeuchi et al. formed this name in 2001 by placing the species Balkwill et al. 1997 into the genus Takeuchi et al. 2001. Chaudhary et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of corrig. (Balkwill et al. 1997) Takeuchi et al. 2001 emend. Hördt et al. 2020 pro synon. Sphingomonas aromaticivorans Balkwill et al. 1997 in 2021.
