The species Campylobacter pyloridis was originally described by Marshall et al. 1984. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 17 in 1985. Marshall and Goodwin corrected this name from Campylobacter pyloridis (sic) to Campylobacter pylori . Fox et al. published an emended description of this species in 1988. A subsequent emendation was proposed by Fox et al. in 1989. In 1989, Goodwin et al. established Campylobacter pyloridis as the basonym of
Helicobacter pylori (Fox et al. 1988) Goodwin et al. 1989
. Fox et al. elevated the subspecies
Campylobacter pylori pylori Fox et al. 1988
to the rank of species to form this name in 1989.
