Nomenclatural History
The species Photobacterium damsela was originally described and validly published by Smith et al. 1991. Trüper and De' Clari corrected this name from (sic) to . Smith et al. formed this name in 1991 by placing the species (sic) (Love et al. 1982) MacDonell and Colwell 1986 into the genus Beijerinck 1889 (Approved Lists 1980). In 1995, Gauthier et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form corrig. (Love et al. 1982) Smith et al. 1991 emend. Kimura et al. 2000 .
