The class Methanothermea was originally proposed by Cavalier-Smith 2002. This name was placed onto the nomina taxorum rejicienda by Judicial Opinion 79 in 2005. Judicial Commission of the International Committee on Systematics of Prokaryotes replaced this illegitimate name with Boone 2002 in 2014.
