Nomenclatural History
|
The class Schizomycetes was originally proposed by von Nägeli 1857. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Woese et al. replaced this illegitimate name with
Universal Root Woese et al. 1990
in 1990.
The Judicial Commission has asserted that this taxon does not have an identifiable type and is not currently in use as a class name. Von Nägeli (1857) applied the name to encompass both fungi and bacteria.
