The species Olsenella umbonata was originally described and validly published by Kraatz et al. 2011. Nouioui et al. published an emended description of this species in 2018. In 2021, Zgheib et al. established as the basonym of (Kraatz et al. 2011) Zgheib et al. 2021 .
