The species Psychrobacillus insolitus was originally described by Krishnamurthi et al. 2010. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 139 in 2011. Krishnamurthi et al. formed this name in 2010 by placing the species Larkin and Stokes 1967 (Approved Lists 1980) into the genus Krishnamurthi et al. 2011.
