The species Cosenzaea myxofaciens was originally described and validly published by Giammanco et al. 2011. Giammanco et al. formed this name in 2011 by placing the species
Proteus myxofaciens Cosenza and Podgwaite 1966 (Approved Lists 1980)
into the genus Cosenzaea Giammanco et al. 2011.
