The species Mycobacterium bacteremicum was originally described by Brown-Elliott et al. 2010. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 148 in 2012. In 2018, Gupta et al. established Mycobacterium bacteremicum as the basonym of
Mycolicibacterium bacteremicum (Brown-Elliott et al. 2012) Gupta et al. 2018
.
