The species Rhizobium sphaerophysae was originally described by Xu et al. 2011. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 148 in 2012. In 2015, Mousavi et al. established as the basonym of (Xu et al. 2012) Mousavi et al. 2015 .
