The species Desulfovibrio capillatus was originally described by Miranda-Tello et al. 2003. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 149 in 2013. In 2020, Waite et al. established as the basonym of (Miranda-Tello et al. 2013) Waite et al. 2020 .
