The species Sphingobium cupriresistens was originally described and validly published by Li et al. 2013. Feng et al. published an emended description of this species in 2019. Feng et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Sphingobium czechense Niharika et al. 2013 emend. Hördt et al. 2020
in 2019.
