In 2016, Sravanthi et al. established Spirochaeta sphaeroplastigenens as the basonym of Alkalispirochaeta sphaeroplastigenens (Vishnuvardhan Reddy et al. 2013) Sravanthi et al. 2016 emend. Hördt et al. 2020 .
