Nomenclatural History
The species Streptomyces ossamyceticus was originally described and validly published by Komaki and Tamura 2021. Rong and Huang elevated the subspecies Schmitz et al. 1965 (Approved Lists 1980) to the rank of species to form this name in 2012.

There was an error in the protologue given by Rong and Huang 2012. The protologue heading reads "Description of Streptomyces hygroscopicus subsp. ossamyceticus (Schmitz et al 1965) sp. Nov. comb. nov."
