The species Nitrospirillum amazonense was originally described by Lin et al. 2014. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 165 in 2015. Lin et al. formed this name in 2014 by placing the species Magalhães et al. 1984 into the genus Lin et al. 2015 emend. Chung et al. 2015.
