The species Borreliella spielmanii was originally described by Adeolu and Gupta 2014. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 163 in 2015. Adeolu and Gupta formed this name in 2014 by placing the species Richter et al. 2006 into the genus Adeolu and Gupta 2015.
