Nomenclatural History
The species Treponema phagedenis was originally described by Noguchi 1912. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 2020 the name was revived and validly published by Kuhnert et al.. Smibert established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of Noguchi 1912 in 1974.
