The species Spongiibacterium pacificum was originally described and validly published by Gao et al. 2015. In 2018, Choi et al. established as the basonym of (Gao et al. 2015) Choi et al. 2018 . In 2019, García-López et al. established as the basonym of (Gao et al. 2015) García-López et al. 2019 non Muricauda pacifica Zhang et al. 2015 .
