The species Paraburkholderia caryophylli was originally described by Sawana et al. 2014. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 164 in 2015. Sawana et al. formed this name in 2014 by placing the species
Burkholderia caryophylli (Burkholder 1942) Yabuuchi et al. 1993
into the genus Paraburkholderia Sawana et al. 2015 emend. Dobritsa and Samadpour 2016. In 2018, Estrada-de los Santos et al. established Paraburkholderia caryophylli as the basonym of
Trinickia caryophylli (Burkholder 1942) Estrada-de los Santos et al. 2018
