The species Rhizobium marinum was originally described and validly published by Liu et al. 2015. In 2020, Hördt et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form (Liu et al. 2015) Hördt et al. 2020 . In 2021, Lassalle et al. established as the basonym of (Liu et al. 2015) Lassalle et al. 2021 .
