The species Burkholderia kirstenboschensis was originally described by Steenkamp et al. 2015. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 170 in 2016. In 2016, Dobritsa and Samadpour established as the basonym of (Steenkamp et al. 2016) Dobritsa and Samadpour 2016 .
