The family Balneolaceae was originally proposed and validly published by Xia et al. 2016. Hahnke et al. published an emended description of this family in 2016.

Not to be confused with Balneolaceae Munoz et. al, 2016 (NVP). In Munoz et. al 2016 this family name was proposed (effectively but not validly published in April, 2016). As Balneolaceae Xia et al. 2016 was validly published afterward (October 6, 2016), Balneolaceae Munoz et. al, 2016 (NVP) cannot appear on a validation list.
