The species Mycobacterium paraterrae was originally described by Lee et al. 2010. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 172 in 2016. In 2018, Gupta et al. established Mycobacterium paraterrae as the basonym of
Mycolicibacter paraterrae (Lee et al. 2016) Gupta et al. 2018
.
