The species Peptoclostridium litorale was originally described and validly published by Galperin et al. 2016. Galperin et al. formed this name in 2016 by placing the species
Clostridium litorale Fendrich et al. 1991
into the genus Peptoclostridium Galperin et al. 2016 non Peptoclostridium Yutin and Galperin 2013.
