Proper Form
| Anaplasma marginale centrale Ristic and Kreier 1974 |
Nomenclatural History
|
The subspecies Anaplasma marginale centrale was originally described by Ristic and Kreier 1974. Ristic and Kreier replaced this name with
Anaplasma centrale (ex Theiler 1911) Ristic and Kreier 1984 emend. Khumalo et al. 2018
in 1984.
Although Ristic and Kreier (1984) revived the name 'centrale' for this species, Theiler (1911) indicated that that 'centrale' was merely a less virulent pathovar of Anaplasma marginale and did propose a formal species name or description. Schindler et al. 1966 describes specific antigens as characteristics of the pathovar, which are cited by Ristic and Kreier 1974 in the description of this subspecies.
