Nomenclatural History
|
The species Klebsiella aerogenes was originally described and validly published by Tindall et al. 2017. Tindall et al. formed this name in 2017 by placing the species
Enterobacter aerogenes Hormaeche and Edwards 1960 (Approved Lists 1980)
into the genus Klebsiella Trevisan 1885 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Ma et al. 2021. This name replaces the name
Klebsiella mobilis Bascomb et al. 1971 (Approved Lists 1980) pro synon. Enterobacter aerogenes Hormaeche and Edwards 1960 (Approved Lists 1980)
.
Although there was an earlier use of "Klebsiella aerogenes" (Kruse) Taylor et al. 1956, the epithet 'aerogenes' was re-established via Rules 41a,b and is not considered to be a revived name. The resulting new combination would have resulted in a homonym, however that name did not appear on the Approved Lists and therefore had no standing nomenclature.
