The subspecies Bacillus subtilis stecoris was originally described by Adelskov and Patel 2016. This name was validly published by Oren and Garrity 2017. Adelskov and Patel corrected this name from Bacillus subtilis stecoris (sic) to Bacillus subtilis stercoris . Dunlap et al. elevated this subspecies to the rank of species to form the name
Bacillus stercoris (Adelskov and Patel 2017) Dunlap et al. 2020
in 2020.
