Proper Form
| Spirosoma flavus Elderiny et al. 2017 |
Nomenclatural History
|
The species Spirosoma flavus was originally described by Elderiny et al. 2017.
This name will remain Not Validly Published because it contravenes Recommendation 12c(4,5) of the Code of Nomenclature of Prokaryotes. An orthographic correction of the epithet from 'flavus' to 'flavum' was originally slated to appear on Validation List 108; however, the name cannot be corrected because it would contravene Rule 12b by creating a later homonym to Spirosoma flavum Zou et al. 2017. Although Elderiny et al. 2017 published two weeks before Zou et al. 2017, the latter name has priority because it was the first to appear in IJSEM. Therefore, this name must be illegitimate under Rule 12b of the Code as clarified by Recommendation 12c(4,5).
