Nomenclatural History
The species Clavibacter sepedonicus was originally described and validly published by Nouioui et al. 2018. Li et al. elevated the subspecies corrig. (Spieckermann and Kotthoff 1914) Davis et al. 1984 to the rank of species to form this name in 2018.

Clavibacter sepedonicus (Spieckermann and Kotthoff 1914) Li et al. 2018 was considered to be illegitimate because it contravened Rules 34a and 50a (the elevation in rank was incorrectly proposed as a new combination rather than a new species). Nouioui et al. 2018 later corrected this problem, and the name is now considered to have standing.
