The phylum Chloroflexota was originally proposed by Garrity and Holt 2001. This name was validly published by Oren and Garrity 2021. Whitman et al. corrected this name from (sic) to . Hugenholtz and Stackebrandt published an emended description of this phylum in 2004. Hugenholtz and Stackebrandt transferred the members of corrig. Garrity and Holt 2021 into this phylum in 2004.
