The species Desulfohalotomaculum alkaliphilum was originally described and validly published by Watanabe et al. 2018. Watanabe et al. formed this name in 2018 by placing the species Pikuta et al. 2000 into the genus Watanabe et al. 2018. In 2020, Watanabe et al. established as the basonym of (Pikuta et al. 2000) Watanabe et al. 2021 .
