The species Haloarcobacter anaerophilus was originally described by Pérez-Cataluña et al. 2018. This name was validly published by Oren and Garrity 2020. Upon validation, this name was corrected from (sic) to . Pérez-Cataluña et al. formed this name in 2018 by placing the species Sasi-Jyothsna et al. 2013 emend. On et al. 2020 into the genus corrig. Pérez-Cataluña et al. 2019 (sic) Pérez-Cataluña et al. 2019.
