The species Poseidonibacter lekithochrous was originally described by Pérez-Cataluña et al. 2018. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 185 in 2019. Pérez-Cataluña et al. formed this name in 2018 by placing the species Diéguez et al. 2017 emend. Diéguez et al. 2018 into the genus Pérez-Cataluña et al. 2019.
