The species Mediterraneibacter lactaris was originally described by Togo et al. 2018. Togo et al. formed this name in 2018 by placing the species
Ruminococcus lactaris Moore et al. 1976 (Approved Lists 1980)
into the genus Mediterraneibacter Togo et al. 2019.
