Nomenclatural History
|
The species Methanobacillus omelianskii was originally described by Bryant et al. 1967. Balch et al. replaced this illegitimate name with
Methanobacterium bryantii Balch and Wolfe 1981
in 1979.
This name is illegitimate as it was based on a syntrophic culture from which the type strains of two species of Methanobacterium were isolated.
