Nomenclatural History
The species Diplococcus pneumoniae was originally described by Weichselbaum 1886. Weichselbaum formed this name in 1886 by placing the species Klein 1884 into the genus Rosenbach 1884 emend. Deibel and Seeley 1974 (Approved Lists 1980). In 1901, Chester established as the basonym of (Klein 1884) Chester 1901 (Approved Lists 1980) .
