Nomenclatural History
The class Cyanophyceae was originally proposed by Sachs 1874. Gibbons and Murray replaced this illegitimate name with (Stanier 1973) Woese et al. 2006 emend. McNeill et al. 2006 non Cyanobacteria Woese et al. 1985 in 1978.
