The species Bartonella mastomysi was originally described by Dahmani et al. 2019. Oren et al. corrected this name from (sic) to . Dahmani et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of (Daly et al. 1993) Brenner et al. 1993 emend. Hördt et al. 2020 in 2018.
