Nomenclatural History
|
The species Luteovulum sphaeroides was originally described by Suresh et al. 2020. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 196 in 2020. In 2019, Suresh et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form
Luteovulum sphaeroides sphaeroides (van Niel 1944) Suresh et al. 2020
. Suresh et al. formed this name in 2020 by placing the species
Rhodobacter sphaeroides (van Niel 1944) Imhoff et al. 1984
into the genus Luteovulum Suresh et al. 2020.
The type strain of this proposed species is the same as that of Rhodobacter sphaeroides (van Niel 1944) Imhoff et al. 1984. However, the name was proposed as sp. nov. instead of comb. nov., making this name a later homotypic synonym.
