The species Phocaeicola salanitronis was originally described by García-López et al. 2019. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 193 in 2020. García-López et al. formed this name in 2019 by placing the species Lan et al. 2006 into the genus Al Masalma et al. 2009 emend. García-López et al. 2019.
