The species Aurantibacter aestuarii was originally described by García-López et al. 2019. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 193 in 2020. García-López et al. formed this name in 2019 by placing the species Lee et al. 2014 into the genus García-López et al. 2020 non Aurantibacter Yoon and Kasai 2017.
