The species Pseudodesulfovibrio halophilus was originally described and validly published by Waite et al. 2020. Galushko and Kuever formed this name in 2019 by placing the species Caumette et al. 1991 into the genus Cao et al. 2016 emend. Waite et al. 2020.

This new combination was cited by Galushko and Kuever 2019 in anticipation of valid publication by Waite et al. 2020.
