The species Natrinema hispanicum was originally described by de la Haba et al. 2021. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 203 in 2022. de la Haba et al. formed this name in 2021 by placing the species Romano et al. 2007 into the genus McGenity et al. 1998 emend. de la Haba et al. 2021.
