The species Propioniciclava coleopterorum was originally described by Li et al. 2022. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 205 in 2022. Li et al. formed this name in 2022 by placing the species Hyun et al. 2021 into the genus Sugawara et al. 2011 emend. Li et al. 2022.
