The species Pantoea piersonii was originally described by Palmer and Coutinho 2015. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 206 in 2022. Palmer and Coutinho formed this name in 2022 by placing the species Singh et al. 2019 into the genus Gavini et al. 1989 emend. Brady et al. 2010.
