The species Streptomyces michiganensis was originally described by Corbaz et al. 1957. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Hu et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of
Streptomyces xanthochromogenes Arishima et al. 1956 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Hu et al. 2021
in 2021.
