The species Streptomyces nigrifaciens was originally described by Waksman 1961. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Lanoot et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of (Waksman 1923) Waksman and Henrici 1948 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Lanoot et al. 2005 in 2005.
