This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 22 in 1986. The species Streptomyces rectiviolaceus was originally described by Artamonova 1965. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1983 the name was revived by Gause et al..
