The species Streptomyces violaceoruber was originally described by Pridham 1970. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Komaki published an emended description of this species in 2022. Komaki established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of (Wollenweber 1920) Waksman 1961 (Approved Lists 1980) emend.
